Johnny Clegg – African Sky Blue (live 2006)
Feb.6,2009African sky blue, your children wait for the dawn
African sky blue, soon a new day will be born
African sky blue
African sky blue, will you bless my life?
African sunshine, soon you will warm your children’s eyes
The African river water will dance and leap in your morning light
African sunshine
African river water, will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
What can I know?
What can I dream?
What can I hope?
What will the future bring?
You shine through me, but will you see me through?
African sky blue
African thunderstorm, your soldiers march through the air
The African rain will fall and wash away all my tears
African falling rain
African falling rain, will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
Oh will you bless my life?
The warrior’s now a worker and his war is underground
With cordite in the darkness he milks the bleeding veins of gold
When the smoking rockface murmurs, he always thinks of you
African sky blue, will you see him through?
Hum-oh-hum
Hum-oh-hum…

Abdullah Ibrahim – A brother with perfect timing
Jan.29,2009A superb film on the life and music of one of South Africa’s finest musicians, Abdullah Ibrahim. Following Ibrahim’s vivid stories, the film moves between New York and Cape Town, mixing documentary with dramatized episodes. Its form mirrors the non linear, narrative circular of Ibrahim’s musical composition, juxtaposing qualities that seem contradictory but evoke the complexity and diversity of his sources. Conceived in close collaboration with Ibrahim, It throbs with anticipation and skillfully describes provocative cultural history of the Cape, through the eyes of the country’s fines musician.

A year ago, the two started the Cape Town Jazz Safari, a kind of expedition through the city’s musical habitat. Led by Mr. Wolf and Mr. Harris, the guided tour lasts between three and four hours, offering a cheery mix of intimate recitals, backyard barbecues and jam sessions.

Ma’Cheri
Ndiyowafumana ph’ amagama anokuxelela
Sthandwa ukuba ndikuthanda kanjani?
Nadaya phesheya kolwandle
Azange ndamfumana okhanya njengelanga lakho
Ndak ‘thulel’ intyatyambo
Hayi!
Oluhambo alusapheli my dali
Ndakwenzel’ izibele
Manje ukhatele sewukholiwe my baby?
Ndikuthanda njengobisi
Ndikuthanda nje ngelizwi
Ndikuthanda nje ngothando lwakho
Ndiyakuthanda xa umdala
Ndicel undiph’ utando lwakho
Ma’cheri my cheroe
Sabhek etown mna nomababy
Ulovie bamthanda kanjani
Bamqab ibhotolo, bamtyisa irolo
Hayi!
Uyakhany umababy
Ma’cheri my cherie
Sath’ ukubuyel ekhaya phofu nawe uyazi
Uthando aluphelelanga enqondweni
