Sinamory by the Seckou Keita Quartet

When I meet this quartet, it was like visiting four different nations at the same time. Egypt, Senegal, Italy(where i live) and Gambia. Seikou’s wife and manger is a Spanish/French. The Egyptian for example spoke good Italian for someone who has never been to Italy (he learned Italian from Mantovani the Italian bassist). They recently made a trip to Senegal for some musical inspiration. On stage the music changes, its very harmonious, with many interesting duets between the Kora and the violin. I don’t know much about the Kora but Seikou seems to be a master player, he was just like singing and dancing around and having fun with his Kora. It was fun hanging around with them. – Kanute

Kanute sent me this video of the Seckou Keita quartet. (Thanks – great music!)

The Seckou Keita Quartet

“They may all be from different places and traditions”, Keita points out, “but our instruments all speak the same language”, and whether playing an upbeat dance tune, or a soulful song, people respond enthusiastically to the remarkable energy that flows between the musicians. The Quartet is itself a journey of musical discovery and audiences are very much invited to join them on the road. (read more about the band) (photo from seckoukeita.com)
